De BBC gaat een documentaire maken over het web. Niet een gewone documentaire, maar een open source documentaire waar iedereen een bijdrage aan kan leveren.

Op de BBC weblog staat een enkele blogpost die voor vandaag, 10 juli 2009, de start van dit project introduceert.

Twenty years ago a young man called Tim Berners-Lee had an idea. He called it the World Wide Web. Today it’s hard for us to imagine a world without the web; without Wikipedia; without social media; without music downloads; without video on demand… The change wrought by the web has been exponential, explosive and so profound that it renders imagining the world in another 20 years time almost impossible. Om bijdragen te leveren is een Youtube kanaal gestart waar gebruikers op video kunnen vastleggen ‘What the web is’. Ook gebruikers hebben inmiddels al een aantal filmpjes gepost.
En op de Flickr groep "The Web is" foto’s verzameld over hetzelfde onderwerp.
Twitter wordt natuurlijk ook ingezet; volg @BBCdigrev. En als ‘officixc3xable’ hashtag wordt #thewebis geadviseerd.
